Retired individual adorns home with 130,000 corks early on in retirement
In the quaint town of Nienburg, Germany, Frank Zeidler has transformed his humble abode into a vibrant, glistening kingdom of bottle caps. With approximately 130,000 bottle caps adorning the walls, floors, and even his suit, Zeidler's home is a spectacle that regularly amazes visitors.
Known as "Kronkorken Frank" on platforms like Instagram, Zeidler spends around 20 to 25 hours a week tending to his collection. His journey began in 2010, during a challenging time when he was caring for his mother who had dementia. The project served as a means to find balance and peace, with Zeidler attaching the first 2,000 bottle caps to the wall that year.
Initially, Zeidler encountered setbacks. A total of 1,500 bottle caps fell on the floor, and 500 hung due to insufficient adhesion. However, he persevered and reattached an additional 128,000 caps, mainly in his basement. Today, his home is a testament to his dedication, with the bottle caps now sticking to ceilings, floors, and walls with ease.
Zeidler's bottle cap collection has put him well on his way to breaking a record. The current Guinness World Record for bottle cap collection stands at 108,000. With over 130,000 bottle caps in his collection, Zeidler could potentially claim this title.
Beyond the glittering masterpiece, Zeidler's bottle cap project serves as a platform for advocating for family caregiving. He believes that this aspect of life is crucial to Germany's well-being and should be highlighted. Zeidler finds the process of gluing and seeing each bottle cap shine calming, and he hopes that his project can inspire others to find peace and purpose in their own ways.
Zeidler took a six-year break after his mother's death, but he has since returned to his passion. His home, a tribute to family caregiving, continues to be a significant part of his life. As he continues to add to his collection, Zeidler hopes to draw attention to the topic of family caregiving and inspire others to find balance and peace in their own lives.
